Getting Back into a Routine
The first few weeks of school can take some adjusting. Establishing a routine can make mornings and evenings less stressful for the whole family.
- Start adjusting bed and wake-up times one or two weeks before school begins.
- Set aside specific times for homework and screen time.
- Prepare lunch, lay out clothes, and pack backpacks the night before.
- Charge electronic devices each evening.
- Label your calendar with important dates (school meetings, appointments, holidays, breaks, and extracurriculars).
Healthy Habits
Healthy habits help children feel their best both inside and outside of the classroom. These habits are recommended for emotional wellness, energy, concentration, and overall well-being.

- Stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Pack balanced lunches with a mix of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy.

After a busy day at school, spending quality time together is a great way to unwind. One of the benefits of living at New Durham Estates is the amenities right outside your front door!
- Take a stroll on the Lincoln Memorial Trail.
- Visit the beautiful Bluhm County Park.
- Fish at the stocked catch-and-release lake.
- Shoot some hoops at the basketball court.
- Walk or ride bikes around the neighborhood.
- Enjoy grilling out with a backyard BBQ.
Safety Reminders
As students head back to school, you’ll notice more children walking, riding bikes, and waiting for buses. Safety is our top priority. Taking a few extra moments to drive carefully helps keep our community a safe place for everyone.
- Slow down and stay alert while driving.
- When a school bus has yellow flashing lights, it is preparing to stop. Slow down and stop your vehicle.
- When a school bus has red flashing lights and stop arms extended, traffic in both directions must come to a complete stop.
- Keep a distance of at least 20 feet behind school buses when stopped.
- Remind children to be aware of their surroundings.
Happy School Year!
From all of us at New Durham Estates, we wish every student, teacher, staff member, and family a safe and successful school year. Thank you for making our neighborhood a wonderful place to call home. We look forward to another school year watching our students learn and grow!
